Soprano, Kammersängerin (Sweden)
Catarina Ligendza has been one of the world leading sopranos lasting over three decades. As a daughter of the famous Swedish operasingers Einar Beyron and Brita Hertzberg, her roots are well known in Sweden. Catarina made her debut in 1963 as the countess in The Marriage of Figaro in Linz /Austria.- Later on at both the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Staatoper Stuttgart she received great success and was nominated the precious title Kammersängerin in both places.- She has been a frequent at La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Convent Garden, the operahouses in Vienna, Hamburg and Munic,and of course also at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Catarina Ligendza has also recorded several operas and concerts on the screen, such as Lohengrin, The Flying Dutchman, Elektra, Der Freischütz and Vier Letzte Lieder von Strauss. During1970-1987 Catarina continued her career and became one of the leading Wagnerian sopranos of our time and sang Brünhilde, Elsa, Isolde in Bayreuth and Fidelio, Senta with H.v.Karajan in Salzburg. Catarinas last performances were in 1987 when she at the highest point of her career made a guest appearance as Brünhilde with the Deutsche Oper Berlin in Tokyo where Wagners ¨Ring Cycle¨was performed for the first time in Japan. |
